Virginia Chapter of the Society of Research Administrators

June 10, 1996 Meeting Minutes

The Spring Meeting of the Virginia Chapter of the Society of Research Administrators (VA-SRA) was called to order at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 1996 in the Sutton Student Center, Roanoke College, Salem, Virginia by Bob F. Wolfson, Chapter President.

By unanimous vote, the By-Laws were suspended. It was noted that the current officers had not been elected in accordance with the By-Laws nor had a nominating committee been appointed. In order to "get back on track," the members in attenclance serving as a committee of the whole nominated the following slate of Officers for the 1996-97 term:

President Bob E. Wolfson, Old Dominion University Research Foundation

President-Elect Jenny Bradley, Roanoke College

Secretary/Treasurer Mary Schamber, Old Dominion University Research Foundation

Upon a motion, duly made and seconded, the above named individuals were unanimously elected to their respective offices for a one-year term.

Bob Wolfson presented the Treasurer's Report. There is approximately $900 in the treasury, not including registration fees for this meeting. About $800 of this is residual income from previous meetings and the remainder came from membership fees.

Beginning with this meeting, everyone will be required to be paid members of the chapter in order to attend meetings. At this time, membership fees are $15 per year and are valid through June 30, 1997. It was suggested that someone check with the national office of SRA to verify membership periods and dates.

A discussion of possible locations, dates and lengths for the next meeting took place. The SRA Section meeting is held in May and the National meeting in October. Pat Buennemeyer, James Madison University, said she could probably host the Spring meeting. It was suggested that the Fall meeting be held in the Tidewater area. Bob Wolfson requested that everyone record their preferences on the evaluation sheet.

It was requested that future mailings to any Virginia Community Colleges be addressed to the Grants and Resource Development Office, not the Office of Sponsored Programs. Mary Schamber, Chapter Secretary/Treasurer, said she would update the mailing list.

There was a discussion about using Chapter funds to send someone to the Regional SRA meeting and what criteria should be used to select who to send. One suggestion was to send either the President or the President Elect. Another idea was to send a research administrator with one to three years experience to the meeting. The last suggestion was to partially subsidize two research administrators.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 12:45.
