June 6, 2002 Meeting Minutes

The Spring Meeting of the Virginia Chapter of the Society of Research Administrators was held at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center, hosted by Norfolk State University.

Janet Hahn opened the Business Meeting of the VA-SRA. Anne Womack recognized and thanked current officers for their time and efforts to the organization: Janet Hahn, President, Betty Browder, President-Elect, Beth Fogarty, Secretary, Billie Martin-Lowry, Treasurer, Betty Browder, Treasurer. Janet Hahn added a special thanks to Kobby Hoffman for facilitating the Listserv and Mike Ludwick for our web-site, as well as our Nominating Committee for this term, Chuck Chermside and Bobby Nixon.

Slate of Officers presented for the coming term were: President, Betty Browder, Virginia Commonwealth University; President-Elect, Mike Glasgow, University of Virginia; Secretary, Mike Ludwick, College of William and Mary; Treasurer, Ann McGuigan, George Mason University. Slate was approved as presented.

Billie Martin-Lowry presented the Treasurer's Report. Ending balance as of June 4, 2002 was $11,162.16.

Pat Buennemeyer, James Madison University, reviewed the proposed changes to the By-Laws. The highlighted changes now allow posting of the slate of nominees by the Nominating Committee to the website 30 prior to Chapter Meeting in lieu of mailing 45 days in advance of membership consideration. If candidates are unopposed, election by membership will occur during the business meeting at the first meeting of the calendar year. Unanimous vote to approve as proposed.

Site selection was discussed for the Fall meeting. The College of William and Mary offered to host the first week in December. Meeting scheduled for December 6, 2002. Inquiry was made to where to hold Spring 2003 meeting. Christopher Newport University tentatively volunteered its campus as no one else was ready to commit at the time. In the interest of varying the locales, it is hoped other offers or site suggestions would be forthcoming.

Discussions were then held regarding the VA-SRA Fellowship for Spring Sectional and one National Meeting that would cover registration fee. No applications for this Fellowship have been submitted in the last two years. There is approximately $8,500 available. It was proposed that the Fellowship be expanded to include travel expenses and room and board, as well as registration fees. It was voted and approved.

Sherry Baldwin suggested Chuck Chermside would be willing to hold CRA Review sessions in conjunction with our Spring and Fall meetings. Pat Buennemeyer said she would be willing to add a training day along with the meeting if interest supported such. There was expressed a need for "fundamentals" training similar to the NCURA Fundamentals Workshops. Janet Hahn made a motion for the Executive Committee to look into training opportunities and to examine the possibility of funds for training programs.

With all old and new business completed, meeting was adjourned.
