December 9. 1998 Meeting Minutes

Ms. Pat Buennemeyer, Chapter President, called the Winter Meeting of the Virginia Chapter of the Society of Research Administrators (VA-SRA) to order at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 1998 in the Jepson Alumni Center at the University of Richmond, Richmond, Virginia.

The Minutes of the previous meeting were not available and the current Secretary was verbally admonished for his shortcomings. The Treasurer's Report (included in the meeting packet) was adopted as presented by Mr. Bob Wolfson, Executive Director of ODU Research Foundation, as the administrator in charge of the account. As of August 17,1998 the Chapter had an accumulated balance of $2,644.62. The new Chapter Treasurer, Ms. Evelyn Mink, will present an updated report at the next scheduled meeting in spring 1999.

The following schedule of the upcoming Chapter meetings was discussed and approved by the Chapter: Spring 1999 meeting at University of Virginia, Ms. Dee Van Hosting Winter 1999 meeting at Virginia State University Spring 2000 meeting at George Mason University.

Discussion was held concerning the possibility of conducting a joint meeting with the North Carolina SRA chapter. The Chapter consensus was that a joint meeting was inappropriate due to the existing meeting schedule and that the chapter should concentrate efforts to increase participation of all Virginia institutions of higher education before expanding into a joint state meeting.

A discussion of Old Business was conducted concerning the VA SRA manual entitled The Compilation of Research Administration and Business Practices for Virginia Institutions of Higher Education. The members requested that Chapter Officers check into the feasibility of a Chapter WEB site. The VA SRA WEB SITE would be used to post pertinent information to assist members including VA SRA Manual.

Additional discussions occurred concerning future meeting presentation topics, presenters and additional information about ERA initiatives. No conclusions or general agreements were approved.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 11:55 a.m.
